AZA 2016: That's a Wrap!

The 2016 AZA annual conference is now over, and it was a blast. We hope that you were able to attend some of our sessions or social outings. If so, thank you! Before we give you the recap, we're having a little contest...

If you were at our late-night cocktail party, you probably noticed that it was packed. And if there's one thing we know about zoo and aquarium people, it's that they know how to have a good time. In the form below, take a guess at how many total drinks were consumed over the course of the night. Closest guess gets a prize!

Today's Boards featured directors (and even a brave board member!) from some of our industry's top organizations. Panelists discussed their challenges, failures, and successes in the complex and never-ending task of managing and being managed by their respective boards of directors. Attendees left the session with new ideas and a better understanding of the road ahead as they chart a path towards the future of their institutions. Read about the session here.

[Not Just] Women in Leadership: Chromosomes and Success
Moderated by Kathy Wagner (Zoo Advisors)
Panelists: Ted Fox (Rosamond Gifford Zoo), Laura Maloney (Panthera), Cynthia Vernon (Monterey Bay Aquarium)

This lively session had nearly 200 conference attendees, and featured panelists from a variety institutions sharing personal stories about the winding roads that lead them to leadership. In a first for the Women in Leadership series, a male panelist (Ted Fox of Rosamond Gifford Zoo) joined the fray. Attendees shared their thoughts and opinions in real-time with Zoo Advisors' live feedback software, and boy did they have a lot to say! Stay tuned for a full report from the session, and look forward to future iterations of this fantastic event. Read about the session here.
